Talking to your child about COVID-19
Posted Friday, March 13, 2020
With increasing media coverage by the day and continuing updates regarding the novel coronavirus, children may express worry and fear that they, their family members or their friends will get sick. At a time like this, trusted adults have an important role to play in calming and reassuring children with information that will help to reduce their anxiety. Attached is a resource for parents by the National Association of School Psychologists and the National Association of School Nurses with suggestions for how to have those conversations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has also issued resources for adults to have healthy conversations with children, including ways to empower them with simple measures they can take themselves to stay healthy. "Talking to Children about Coronavirus Disease 2019" is available to download in both English and Spanish on the CDC website.
