Find your voice

Loveland Elementary School (LES) students had a rare opportunity Friday, Jan. 31. Professional opera singer, Mrs. Kara Shay Thomson, visited the fourth-grade students and led an assembly for “Opera Day.”
“Not only was Kara Shay’s visit an amazing opportunity for our students to see and hear a professional opera singer, it also served as a prompt for students to explore their own interests and passions,” said Michele Henn, LES music teacher. “We are also very fortunate to have been an audience to her powerful and beautiful voice!”
Thomson discussed the importance of finding your own voice, sharing that sometimes you do not know what career or life path you will take until your voice leads you in that direction. Students were encouraged to listen to their voices (which she told them might hide inside for quite a while).
“This was an important life lesson for our young Tigers,” said Jennifer Forren, LES principal. “I’m so impressed with the message Mrs. Thomson delivered, and I know our students learned a great deal from what she had to share.”
In addition to speaking to the students about career paths, Thomson also demonstrated her powerful instrument and had the entire grade level participate in the retelling and performing of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
