LHS: Upcoming Next Generation Assessments Tiger Family:

Each year the Ohio Department of Education requires students in high school to participate in state assessments. This has been accomplished with the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT) in recent years, and is being phased out with this year’s class of sophomores. Beginning for this year’s freshman class, the class of 2018, the assessments are called Next Generation Assessments. Students will be assessed in seven state-selected courses throughout their high school career in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. These assessments have a new, expanded format and will become available online. Your school principal will be providing the specific schedules for your student shortly.

Expanded Format
The Next Generation Assessments are delivered in multiple segments. There are two sessions of testing for each subject area. The performance-based assessments will be given between February 16 through March 20, and the end-of-year assessments will be scheduled between April 13 and May 15. Each session is comprised of a series of assessments for each subject and grade level.

Online Format
The Next Generation Assessments are available online and in a paper/pencil format. This year each Ohio school district developed a plan based on the number of computers available for student access within the assessment windows. Beginning next year, it is predicted that the assessments will only be available online.

We believe that these assessments measure only one portion of your child’s accomplishments. Our vision at Loveland is to ensure that all students are enriched in many ways that are not easily measured on standardized assessments. While these tests are an important benchmark for schools, families, and students, they are by no means the only ruler by which we believe our students are measured. It is our daily mission to Grow Every Tiger. We believe that the quality instruction that occurs every day in our classroom delivered by our talented and dedicated staff prepares Loveland students to be caring, confident Tigers ready to meet the academic challenges they face.

If you have specific questions about the state assessments, please feel free to contact me at or 683-5600. If you have questions about your child’s schedule, please contact your school principal or teacher.
