When school ends, the running begins for Loveland Elementary School (LES) fourth-grade students. The school has formed a Runner’s Club open to the students, staff and parents.
“We had about 70 fourth graders sign up,” said Andrew Price, LES fourth-grade teacher and club sponsor. “Everyone seems to be enjoying it!”
The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays around 3:15; students begin running after stretching. Price said they modeled their club after the Loveland Intermediate School (LIS) Runner’s Club, which just hosted 191 runners at the Tiger Trot 5K Thursday, May 9. The LIS Runner’s Club has been meeting at the LIS building since 2000.
"Runner's Club not only helps kids challenge themselves, but it provides students with a fun way to stay fit and to be with their friends,” said Steve Federman, LIS science teacher and club sponsor. “Running is something they can do for the rest of their lives."
