“If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.” - John Dewey
As John Dewey, one of the fathers of modern-day education, originally quoted in his 1915 work Schools of Tomorrow over 100 years ago, his words have never been truer. As a society, we find ourselves in a truly meaningful period in time where technology is radically shifting and challenging the way in which we approach our daily lives, both personally and professionally. Whether our device of choice is a smartphone, tablet, Chromebook, MacBook, etc., technology provides us the ability to access and share information in ways never before thought possible. Here at the Loveland City School District, we recognize and embrace this potential to approach teaching and learning in the age of innovation.
At Loveland Schools, we believe innovation is a process, and not something that happens in random occurrences or events. It is a mindset of personal growth among all of our students and staff, and the belief that our abilities and intelligence are constantly being developed and practiced. To truly enrich and grow each and every one of our Tigers, we must embrace the opportunities and challenges that technology brings along with it. Although the power of technology isn’t an end all, be all, technology provides us the opportunity to reach each and every one of our students and to truly personalize their Loveland Schools learning experience.
This year across Loveland, you will start to see what innovation looks like to our students, teachers and administration in the form of #TigerInnovation. As we roll out the Tiger One to World program in grades 7-12, introduce the new innovative media center space at Loveland High School and look forward to the introduction of our Innovative Classrooms Grants, #TigerInnovation will be taking shape across the school district this year. By fostering and supporting a learning culture that embraces risk-taking, creativity and reflection, we promise to provide our students with an innovative learning environment that prepares them for tomorrow, today.
#TigerInnovation is not about technology. #TigerInnovation is our promise to grow innovative thinkers by teaching our students to be resilient, creative and empathetic in their pursuit of knowledge. This happens in the classroom on a daily basis and is made possible through the amazing work that our Loveland teachers do in growing and caring for each and every one of their Tigers. Technology is simply a tool that supports this process, that when integrated with best practice in the classroom, provides maximum potential for student achievement.
We look forward to highlighting the impact that #TigerInnovation has on our student’s learning experience, and we welcome you to follow along.
