Loveland Elementary School (LES) wants to shine a volunteer spotlight on a special Loveland High School (LHS) student-athlete. In Mary Frees’ Resource Room at LES, LHS Athlete Danny Kruzel mentors special needs students who love sports.
“Danny heads down to LES twice a week to help young, special needs athletes catch up on their school work, and once work is done, they shoot some hoops or other fun activities,” said Frees. “He gives up his office job at LHS, to become a teacher in training. Danny told me he is looking go to college to be an intervention specialist.”
Kruzel volunteered for the unique assignment when LES Principal Jennifer Forren contacted LHS Principal Chris Kloesz asking for a mentor who was also an athlete.
“Both LES and LHS benefit from this experience,” said Forren. “Our young students gain the camaraderie of an older student, and the LHS student mentor gets valuable experience working with the younger Tigers. We are excited to have this partnership with Danny and LHS.”
