Loveland students were out of class, but still hard at work.
Saturday, May 3, 13 Loveland High School (LHS) senior service leaders and more than 50 volunteers gathered at the Loveland Christian Church to work for Matthew 25 Ministries assembling birthing kits that the nonprofit needed to transport for women in third-world countries.
“Our students worked very hard on this project; it was amazing to see that such a simple kit dramatically reduces the rate of infection and mortality of both mother and child,” said Bre Sambuchino, LHS Spanish teacher and Senior Service sponsor. “It was a project in which students could hear the statistics and leave knowing that the work they did will probably save some lives.”
The goal was to produce 1,000 kits; the team assembled close to 1,600! Birthing kits will be distributed through health professionals to hospitals, clinics or Village Birthing Attendant training programs in developing countries.
