Evacuation at LIS & LMS
Posted Thursday, February 18, 2016
I want to take this opportunity to offer a message of gratitude to my entire Tiger Family for the response to the evacuation situation we experienced at Loveland Middle School (LMS) and Loveland Intermediate School (LIS) around 12 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18. Within minutes of learning about an unspecified threat from an automated call at LIS, our team had contacted emergency responders and evacuated our children to safe places, also informing our LIS and LMS parents to the situation at hand through the School Alert system, and notifying the entire district through our website and social media channels.
It took many people from multiple departments to manage this effort. Our teachers and staff handled the evacuation like the consummate professionals they are, our wonderful students calmly acted exactly as directed, and our supportive parents showed extreme patience and kindness as we worked to control the situation. I also want to offer a special thanks to Prince of Peace Church and Northstar Church for opening their doors for our students to have a place to go while the Loveland Police Department conducted a thorough search of the LIS/LMS campus.
The safety and security of our students and our staff is of the utmost importance to our district. We made the decision to cancel all LIS and LMS evening activities for Thursday, Feb. 18, to ensure that our law enforcement officials had ample time to complete their building inspections. The Loveland Police Department did give an “all clear” for both the LIS and LMS buildings, and we will return to class as normal for Friday, Feb. 19. We all appreciate the Loveland Police Department for their prompt response; any questions regarding the investigation should be directed to them.
Again, I thank you – all of you – for your response to this situation. As always, I am so proud to be a Tiger.
Dedicated to the future of our students,
