The Roar rocks!

The Tiger family needs to give a round of applause to the Loveland High School (LHS) student newspaper, The Roar, after it earned 32 honors in the 2013 Ohio Scholastic Media Association awards, including a second-place award in the Overall Publications category.
“This is the result of student focus and creativity,” said Neil Schmidt, LHS journalism teacher. “The paper brought home 14 more awards than it won in the same contest last year; it is a testament to our team raising the bar to perform at an even higher level. As their teacher, I’m proud of all they have accomplished.”
In individual categories, Superior Awards were given to junior Ricky Mulvey for Commentary and to senior Jenna Myklebust for Sports Opinion. Excellent Awards were given to Mulvey in both the First Person Narrative and Editorial Page Layout categories, to Myklebust for Sports Coverage, to junior Rachel Griswold for News Feature, and to senior Ryan Moss for Newspaper Package.
Senior Matt Becker earned five Honorable Mention awards (Commentary, Sports Feature, Infographic, and two for Front Page Layout). Myklebust received three Honorable Mentions (two for General Feature, one for Computer-Assisted Art), as did senior Mitch Casperson (two for Sports Page Layout, one for Columns). Two Honorable Mentions apiece were won by senior Bridget Landis (Editorial and Feature Photo), senior Erin Pogue (Personality Profile and Infographic), and junior Sarah Goldenberg (News Feature and News Photo).
Other individual Honorable Mention winners were senior Carla Weismantel (Computer-Assisted Art), senior Laura Doppler (Sports Photo), senior Andrew Bessey (Feature Photo) and junior Kayla Herrmann (Sports Feature). The Roar also earned two Honorable Mentions as a staff in the Photo Story category.
“We congratulate both Mr. Schmidt and student staff members for their outstanding accomplishments,” said Chris Kloesz, LHS principal. “The Roar is an example of Tiger excellence at work; we commend the team on a job well done.”
