Tour of science

Loveland Intermediate School (LIS) fifth and sixth graders had one focus Friday, March 15: science. Students rotated through 28 presentations on science, some with hands-on activities, to celebrate the annual Science Day event.
“We had community members – like the Loveland Symmes Fire Department – presenting on firefighting technology,” said Garth Carlier, LIS principal. “The fact is, science is all around us, impacting everything in our daily life, and we tried to set up the event to showcase this to the students.”
All departments got involved, including art. Art teacher Carole Ritchie worked with science teachers to create an art display that incorporated science theories.
Presentations ranged from pet therapy to aerodynamics.
“Pulling this together was a true team effort supported primarily by the PTSA; the PTSA organizes the presenters and provides lunch for this, and we sincerely appreciate their hard work,” said Carlier. “We have young scientists at LIS, and this was a creative way for them to explore the different areas.”
