LPS Poetry Café

The lights were dim and the mood was eager Friday, Dec. 14, as Loveland Primary School (LPS) students seated across the floor of Mrs. Schlesselman’s second grade classroom waited patiently. Microphone hot, spotlight on - one by one they claimed the chair positioned in front of fellow classmates and parents to recite a poem they wrote, selected and practiced just for this moment.
“This is an excellent lesson in public speaking, as well as a creative way to show off their beautiful poetry,” said Patsy Schlesselman, LPS second grade teacher. “The children spend time in class working on several poems, and this is their chance to perform their favorite in front of a captive audience. I’m so proud of the work they do, and know the parents feel the same.”
This classroom café was complete with treats – refreshments were enjoyed by all.
