Our mission is your child’s nutrition and well-being.
We want to provide a variety of nutrition along with appetizing meals that provide 1/3 of the USDA’s recommended Daily Allowance of important minerals and vitamins for a reasonable cost. Child Nutrition plays an important role in the education of every student in the district. Our Child Nutrition personnel are dedicated to making certain every child is fed well-balanced, nutritious meals each day.
Federal Nutrition standards bring school meals in line with the Dietary Guidelines while providing students with the nutrition they need to succeed in school. The school meal standards are based on recommendations from the Institute of Medicine to increase consumption of fruits and vegetables while setting age-appropriate calorie ranges. Providing thorough food and nutrition education is a key ingredient in preparing the students to establish life-long healthy eating habits.
NATIONAL SCHOOL LUNCH PROGRAM:
Our District participates in the National School Lunch Program. Through this program, free or reduced-cost meals are available to children whose families meet certain criteria. Applications are available online and at any of the school office locations. This institution is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
WHY SCHOOL LUNCH?
The stigma of the "traditional school lunch" is challenging to overcome, but our Food Service Department is working hard to provide exciting menu options, new marketing initiatives, and improve food choice and quality while following all Federal and State guidelines.
Child Nutrition personnel encourage every student to take each of the offered components at every meal. Good nutrition is important to learning. Children behave better, have longer attention spans, and are more eager to learn when they eat healthy meals. Food Services wants to make sure that all of Loveland's students are ready to focus on their lessons every day.
School lunch offers students 5 components (grain, protein (M/MMA), fruit, vegetable, and milk) at lunch. A student must select 3 out of the 5 offerings, 1 of those must be a fruit or vegetable to make a reimbursable meal. Each meal is designed to provide a nutritionally balanced meal with less than 30% of total calories from fat.
School breakfast will be served in each of our buildings this year. Research shows that, on average, students who eat school breakfast achieve 17.5% higher scores on standardized math tests and attend 1.5 more days of school per year.
In order for our students to succeed in the classroom, we need to give them the best possible start to their day. We do this by making certain they start the day with a full stomach so they are ready to learn. By participating in the school lunch and breakfast programs, we can set our students on a path to success.
