Blizzard Bag
Blizzard BagIn an effort to reduce the number of calamity days students will be required to make up at the end of the 2013-14 school year, the Loveland City School District Board of Education voted Tuesday, Feb. 4, to approve the use of a “Blizzard Bag” – or take-home assignment option. The Blizzard Bag approach allows the district to avoid up to three additional days of school in June, and is approved by the Ohio Department of Education. The district will be able to utilize the Blizzard Bag option for the remainder of this school year, and we will communicate necessary details if school should have to be canceled any more this winter.

“This has been a most unusual winter for school districts all across the state,” said Loveland Superintendent Chad Hilliker. “This option allows for continued student learning at home without interruption when the weather won’t permit us to open the district for instruction. We still face several weeks of winter, and made the decision to put this in place on the chance that conditions don’t improve.”

How “Blizzard Bag” will operate

• Should the district close due to weather conditions, students and parents will be able to access instruction for the Blizzard Bag lessons by visiting the main district website www.lovelandschools.org.

• Students must complete assignments within a two-week period from the date of posting to avoid receiving an incomplete or failing grade (unless a sufficient reason is provided to the teacher).

• Students without access to a computer will be able to complete the posted lessons at school after the reopening of school. Students using this option will be granted two weeks from the date of reopening to complete these lessons. (The district will provide access to district computers before, during, or after the school day or will provide a similar paper lesson in order for students to complete the assignments.)

Any parent or student with a question about the Blizzard Bag instructions is encouraged to contact either the classroom teacher or the principal of the building.
