Loveland High School (LHS) students who belong to the LHS affiliate of Magnified Giving, a philanthropy club, donated $1600 to Fernside, a Cincinnati nonprofit organization dedicated to providing peer support groups for children who have experienced the death of a parent or sibling.
“This is our first year to have the Magnified Giving club at LHS,” said Lynnette Viox, LHS English teacher and club sponsor. “I was contacted last summer by Roger Grein, the founder of Magnified Giving, and invited to join the program. I was so excited to hear about a program that had a mission to educate and inspire students in philanthropy. We have so many awesome, caring students and it provides the perfect opportunity for them to show their concern for others, increase their awareness of the needs of others, and teach them how they can help make their community a better place.
“The students researched and visited several nonprofit organizations to determine which one would receive the grant. Magnified Giving donated a portion of the grant money and our group had bake sales to raise the rest of the money."
"Being a part of Magnified Giving has been a wonderful experience,” said Gillian Marr, LHS junior. “My group had the privilege of visiting Fernside before selecting it as our grant recipient and each of us was deeply touched by what they did there. Fernside is an amazing organization."
Students presented the donation check Tuesday, April 30, at the annual Magnified Giving Awards Ceremony at McAuley High School; it was a moment to remember.
"Magnified Giving encouraged us to look further into our own communities,” said Alicia Sullivan, LHS senior. “It was a great experience I know I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Magnified Giving prepares us to be actively serving and helping others."
