Loveland students take center stage at Cappies
Loveland students take center stage at Cappies It’s like the Oscars for high school theatre, and this year, Loveland has 22 students walking the red carpet at the Aronoff Center May 23 – earning the most Cappies nominations of any participating Greater Cincinnati school, 18 of which were earned for the Loveland High School (LHS) spring production of Shrek the Musical. The complete list of nominees includes:

• Marketing and Publicity: Abby Docherty, Kaylie Simms
• Sound: Nick Vincenty
• Lighting: Mackenzie Slyder, Clayton Walker
• Stage Crew: Nick Miller
• Choreography: Logan Amon, Lauren Hole, Daniel, Kiley, Alec Wood
• Ensemble in a Musical: Fairytale Creatures
• Featured Actress: Chloe Tenbrink
• Featured Actor: Peter Hoffman
• Female Dancer: Maddie Porczak
• Male Dancer: Alec Wood
• Female Vocalist: Abby Smith
• Comic Actress in a Musical: Cameron Deville
• Comic Actor in a Musical: Dean Parker
• Supporting Actor in a Musical: Brighton Hummer
• Lead Actress in a Musical: Abby Docherty
• Lead Actor in a Musical: Aaron Marshall
• Song: “Freak Flag”
• Musical: Shrek the Musical
• Critique: Cole Hankins
• Male Critic: Sean Chrusniak
• Male Critic: Cole Hankins
• Critic Team: Loveland High School

In addition to an outstanding overall nomination performance – this year Loveland has two students competing for the category of “Best Male Critic.”

“We have a team of students travel around to area schools, see their shows, and write reviews for them – this happens for all of the other schools as well,” explained John Jones LHS English teacher and Cappies advisor. “Some of these reviews end up getting published in local papers, and at the end of the year the critics teams vote for who gets to win the Cappie.

“Cappies also gives out awards to members of the critics teams. This is the first year that there is a category for "best review," and Loveland sophomore Cole Hankins is up for that. He and sophomore Sean Chrusniak have been dueling all year to see who gets more reviews published, and BOTH ended up getting published five times. I don't think we've ever had anyone get published five times, let along two people! BOTH of them are up for best male critic – so two of the six nominees from all the area high schools in Cappies are from Loveland.”

Loveland Cappies critics team and grade (from International Thespian Troupe #572):

• Ashley Boggs, 12 (Lead Critic)
• Allison Dierling, 12
• Erin Ellis, 12
• Mackenzie Mahon, 12
• Katrina Culbertson, 12
• Sean Chrusniak, 10
• Kylea Royal, 11
• Cole Hankins, 10
• Sydney Mahon, 10

Winners will be announced at the Cappies Gala awards presentation May 23 in downtown Cincinnati at the Aronoff Center. We congratulate all nominated students; good luck May 23!
