Walking to support education
Walking to support educationThe Loveland Elementary Parent Teacher Association (LEPTA) joined forces with students and staff at Loveland Elementary School (LES), Loveland Primary School (LPS) and Loveland Early Childhood Center (LECC) and more than 100 volunteers to support the second annual LEPTA Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser. The groups raised more than $53,000 for students during the walks that began Thursday, Oct. 8, and ended Thursday, Oct. 15.

“We are truly overwhelmed by the support of our Loveland families and our local community!” said Amy Friday, LEPTA president. “We want to thank the LEPTA Walk-A-Thon team, volunteers and all the families that supported our fundraiser. The students had a great time walking for their schools, and we appreciate all the support we received from our teachers and principals.”

“We are so appreciative of the LEPTA for organizing this event that was both fun for the students to participate in and will also help to enrich their educational experience while attending Loveland,” said Jennifer Forren, LES Principal.

The money raised will impact students in kindergarten through fourth grade through sponsorship of programs like COSI on Wheels (hands-on science learning), Science Day, author visits and field trips.

“These programs are a nice complement to the work we do in the classroom,” said LECC Principal Kyle Bush. “We could not provide these extra learning experiences without the strong support of our LEPTA.”

“In addition, we are thankful for all of the area businesses that stepped forward to help make this Walk-A-Thon a success,” said LPS Principal Kevin Fancher. “The number of businesses that sponsored the event tripled from last year, and we believe that is a testament to the positive school-community relationship we enjoy in Loveland.”

In addition to the walk students also participated in an obstacle course, ball relay, and dance and limbo station.
