To any passersby, it was clear – this event was a celebration.
Music was playing, the Loveland Tiger was cheering, and a treat followed the final lap for each student who participated in the annual End of Loveland Elementary School (LES) Runners Club Fun Run Thursday, Oct. 26.
“We had over 100 fourth graders registered for LES Runners Club this year,” said LES Teacher and Runners Club Sponsor Andrew Price. “On any given day we had on average of about 80 students running.”
Dozens of students committed to running every Tuesday and Thursday. They build stamina during the weeks that follow, all culminating to the big race day when each runner is encouraged to complete six laps around the campus – the equivalent of running a 5K race (3.1 miles)!
“What motivates me to continue doing this program is the look on the faces of our students when they complete the 5K Fun Run at the end of each season,” said Price. “They have such a sense of accomplishment after they finish. For many of them, this is their first 5K race. Hopefully, it will be one of many to come.”
“The LMS Girls Cross Country team winning state is an amazing accomplishment; I remember some of those same girls running laps around our school here at LES just a few years ago,” said Price. “I am so proud of them. Hopefully we are preparing some more runners to follow in their footsteps.”
The LES Runners Club will start up again in the spring – typically right after spring break. Price said registered club members run during the months of April and May. Visit the LES Runners Club website
in March 2018 for information on how to sign up.
