‘It felt like a dream’
‘It felt like a dream’The Loveland High School (LHS) show choir, By Request, took the title of Grand Champion during the Show Choir Nationals April 4-6 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. The LHS Show Choir was also named best in vocals and best in choreography.

“I was in awe; I was definitely in awe at how far we have come in that moment,” described Kelsey Wagner, LHS senior and show choir member. “I was grateful to have been part of something so huge, to watch the improvement through the years and to get to spend time with such wonderful people.”

“It was unreal,” said Drew Kovacs, LHS senior and show choir member. “It felt like a dream. It has put our school on the map – it has given us a name nationally – it gives the entire school something to take pride in.”

The LHS Show Choir is comprised of 82 high school students including singers, dancers, and band and crew members. LHS students have performed under the direction of LHS Show Choir Director Shawn Miller since 2007. The team beat out 10 other groups to claim the national title.

“This was the best of the best in the country, and we won,” said Miller. “It’s incredibly rewarding. This is just a special group of students and they love what they do. Each year they have raised the bar, and that is why they were successful.”

Miller said the LHS Show Choir competed in this competition three years ago and finished eighth.

“I look at all we have accomplished – the turnaround we experienced – and it was amazing to see the transformation,” said Kovacs.

"We could not be more proud of these talented students; they have persevered and they have achieved,” said Chris Kloesz, LHS principal. “We are seeing the results of invaluable dedication and countless hours of practice. They are a special group of students who very much deserve the accolades they have received. Congratulations to our national champions and their director, Mr. Miller!”
