School Garden News
Looking for a good opportunity to volunteer with your kids? Join Granny’s Wagon Brigade as we share flowers from the school gardens and spread the word about Granny’s Garden School; April 28th, from 1-4pm. We are looking for families to help out by passing out flowers in your own neighborhoods. Email Granny@grannysgardenschool.org for more information.
Prior to the plant sale, we are sharing a limited number of plants from our gardens - first come first served. This week, we are offering: Some of our awesome red raspberries 5 one-gallon pots for $20. We do not know the variety name but they have been producing on school grounds for ten years. They always start bearing the last week of May and continue for about six weeks. They are very dependable, heavy producers, nothing bothers them, including deer.
Weekend of May 4-5 – Granny’s Spring Garden Party and Plant Sale – at Loveland’s Primary and Elementary Schools - This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds are used to bring the garden program to Loveland’s students. Visit our on-line catalog for a sampling of the annuals we will have at the sale.
This is also the weekend we are introducing our first annual Iris Walk on the grounds of the primary and elementary schools.
Free plants and seeds from Granny’s Garden School:
• Granny wants every child to have the opportunity to have their own little garden. To get them started, at the plant sale, May 4-5, she is giving away more than 600 cherry tomato plants to children. These old fashion tomatoes produce an abundance of tomatoes for children to eat, share or even sell to neighbors. If a few of the tomatoes split and drop on the ground, leave them and you will have more plants next year! To get a free cherry tomato plant coupon for each of your children, email Granny at email@example.com. Coupons must be presented at the plant sale by the children.
• Plant a Sunflower & Grow a Smile - Granny is offering a package of multiple-branching bouquet sunflower seeds, free, to every family in Loveland. To get yours, email your name, address and phone # to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer in your child's garden class
It's a great way to get involved with your child's class and share the gardening experience. With more hands to help we can divide the class into small groups, making for a more enjoyable and educational experience for all. Email Granny’s Education Director, Jody Maher, for more information.
