Standards Guides for Families

The Ohio Department of Education has taken the kindergarten through eighth-grade standards, which are hundreds of pages long, and reduced them into smaller guides that spell out what is expected of students at each grade. 

There is one guide for each grade level. In each guide there are indicators for each standard. Please note that the information in this guide is not the complete set of standards; it highlights a select number of skills your child should know and be able to do at each grade.  

The bulleted statements under the “What this means” are examples of indicators for that specific grade. These are the things your child has to learn at that grade. Again, this is not the entire list, just a few examples. If you want to see the

 To help you better understand the indicators, the guides include “Check your understanding” areas that further define and give examples of those indicators. Also included are tips and activities you can do with your child.
