Standard 2: Acquisition of Vocabulary

A.  Utilize context clues to determine the meaning of new       vocabulary.

1.   Understand new words from the context of conversations or       from the use of pictures within a text (e.g., autumn/fall).

 

B.  Read accurately high-frequency sight words.

3.   Identify words in common categories such as color words,       number words, directional words, and antonyms.

 

D.  Demonstrate the meaning of specialized vocabulary by applying       knowledge of word parts, relationships, and meanings.

2.   Recognize and understand words, signs and symbols seen in       everyday life (stop, go, boy, girl, women, men, exit, stop sign,       stoplight, railroad crossing and handicap).

 

E.   Utilize resources to determine the meanings and pronunciations       of unknown words.

4.   Determine the meaning of unknown words, with assistance,       using a beginner’s dictionary.
