A.   Use correct spelling conventions.

1.   Spell frequently misspelled and high frequency words       correctly.

 

B.   Use conventions of punctuation and capitalization in       written work.

2.   Use commas, end marks, apostrophes, and quotation       marks correctly.

3.   Use semicolons, colons, hyphens, dashes, brackets,       and parentheses.

4.   Use correct capitalization.

C.   Use grammatical structures to effectively

      communicate ideas in writing.

5.   Use all eight parts of speech (e.g., noun, pronoun,

      verb, adverb, adjective, conjunction, preposition, and       interjection).

6.   Use verbs, including perfect tenses, transitive and       intransitive verbs and linking verbs.

7.   Use nominative (subject), objective, possessive, indefinite       (each, someone) and relative pronouns (who, whom,

      whose).

8.   Use subject-verb agreement with collective nouns, indefinite       pronouns, compound subjects, and prepositional phrases.

9.   Identify the subject and predicate of a sentence.

10.  Distinguish between simple and compound sentences.

11.  Recognize and use four sentence types: declarative,       interrogative, explanatory, and imperative.

12.  Recognize and avoid fragments and run-on sentences.
