ways authors develop point of view and style to achieve specific rhetorical and
aesthetic purposes (e.g., through
use of figurative language, irony, tone, diction, imagery, symbolism and sounds of
language), citing specific examples
from text to support analysis. 8b. Recognize
and identify poetic literary terms: meter, caesura, kenning, imagery, ballad, couplet,
quatrain, sonnet, turn, epic,
conceit, octane, sestet, blank verse, and free verse. 8c. Recognize
and identify literary elements relevant to prose and poetry: conflict,
mood, tone, imagery, apostrophe, symbol,
paradox, oxymoron, irony and allusion. 8d. Recognize
