Assessments

1. AIMSweb- Test of Early Literacy

This quick assessment is given to each student three times a year: fall, winter, and spring. This test measures letter and letter sound fluency, phonemic awareness skills, and phonics skills that are crucial for reading success. Students name letters and letter sounds in one minute intervals . Students are also asked to take a one-syllable word and give all the sounds they hear in the word (ie. Cat, /k/ /a/ /t/). Phonics skills are measured by reading short nonsense words.  Beginning in the winter of first grade, student read aloud for one minute to measure reading fluency.

2. Gifted testing

At LECC we offer gifted testing once a year during the second semester. The exact dates will be in our newsletter. A teacher or parent must refer students; not all students participate in gifted testing. Gifted services begin in grade three.
